If you want to see the guitar fret board from the 1st fret to the 22nd fret clearly, moving from position to position while improvising/soloing, the CAGED SYSTEM book explains the way all the great players visualize there chords, arpeggios, scales etc.

As a lead player, you will no longer be boxed in at one position when soloing. If your ear is telling you to go higher, you don't have to guess where those notes are, you will see the next positions going up the fret board clearly so you can solo in one position through the whole song, if you choose, or you can solo anywhere on the fret board according to where your ear leads you.

For the chordal player/ songwriter, this book gives you a vast chord vocabulary that you can build on for a lifetime and help you get out of playing that one chord in only two positions. The CAGED System instead gives you hundreds of possibilities of positions to play chords and different inversions moving all the way up the fret board. 

Once learning the CAGED System, a player can play through a song such as "all the things you are" and stay in one position or you can move around as your ear guides you. this is a system that I learned early from Jimmy Herring, which takes 5 chord shapes and uses them to visualize the entire fret board. Not only is it a must for the serious guitarist, but it is the system that I use in all of my books. 

This book has color coded notes in the examples for better understanding. This book will help the guitar player visualize the fret board on the guitar as easily as a piano player visualizes the keys on a piano. It will truly be an eye opener.
